Authorities in the island district of Lý Sơn, a famous tourist site in the central province of Quảng Ngãi Province, have issued a code of conduct for the tourism industry, including dos and don’ts for local residents, travellers and service providers.

Locals are encouraged not to use plastic bags or cheat visitors by taking advantage of local knowledge. They are not allowed to consume, trade or use banned substances or wild animals.

Business owners are required to sell at the same prices to both Vietnamese and foreign customers and not inflate prices during times of high demand.

Visitors to the island need to strictly comply with laws, respect local customs and traditions and drink responsibly when consuming beer or alcohol at eateries. They are also advised to wear suitable clothes at places of worship and during sacred festivals and act civilly in public places, especially sanctuaries.

The rules are slated to take effect in November. — VNS
