The backpacker area bounded by Phạm Ngũ Lão, Chu Văn An and Võ Thị Sáu streets in the ancient city of Huế has been turned into a pedestrians-only square every night from Friday to Sunday.

Nguyễn Văn Thành, chairman of the city People’s Committee, said the area would be closed to all vehicles from 6pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays and 6pm to midnight on Sundays to create open spaces for locals and visitors to walk around and admire the beauty of the romantic Hương River at night.

City authorities have also green lighted a plan to set up food stalls on pavements.
