The HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has suggested hiking museum admission fees for Vietnamese to bring them on par with those paid by foreigners.

HCM CITY — The HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has suggested hiking museum admission fees for Vietnamese to bring them on par with those paid by foreigners. 

According to the proposal, everyone will pay an entrance fee of VNĐ40,000 (US$1.75) at the HCM City War Remnants Museum and VNĐ30,000 at the HCM City Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the HCM City Museum of Vietnamese History.

Children under six, poor people, senior citizens and people with disabilities will be admitted free to all the museums and children aged between six and 16 and students will be offered a 50 per cent discount.

If the proposal is approved, the changes will take effect on January 1 next year.

Now locals pay VNĐ2,000-5,000 at all the museums while foreigners pay VNĐ10,000-15,000.

Admission is free for children, the elderly and disabled people.

The Southern Women’s Museum and Tôn Đức Thắng Museum charge no admission fees.—VNS
