The Huế administration has green lighted plans to turn the backpacker area in Phú Hội Ward into a pedestrian-only square on weekend nights to make the city more attractive to foreign tourists.

Starting in late September vehicles will be banned on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings between 6pm and 2am.

The authorities also plan to provide training to vendors and household business owners to improve their sales and service skills.

Nguyễn Đình Chiểu Street along the Hương (Perfume) River has already been turned into a pedestrians-only area.—VNS
