Travel firms hit by ticket shortage

Update: June, 01/2012 - 09:01

HCM City-based travel agencies are unable to meet the travel demand for Myanmar due to a shortage of tickets.

Myanmar has recently emerged as a popular destination for both Vietnamese travel companies and individuals, leading to the ticket shortage.

Just a few tour operators in HCM City offer tours to Myanmar, and they said the tours would be sold out if they can find enough air tickets.

Now only Viet Nam Airlines offers direct flights between Viet Nam and Myanmar through Ha Noi and HCM City, though clients can go there by transiting in Bangkok.

Tour operators are now offering five-day trips to Myanmar for VND12-13 million.

According to the Myanmar consulate in HCM City, the number of Vietnamese applying for visas rose sharply in February to nearly 200, mainly businessmen, compared to the average of 50-60 per month last year. — VNS
