A resident of Nghệ An Province has released a huge turtle back into nature, despite attractive offers from a meat trader who wanted to buy it.

Nguyễn Dương Liệu, who found the 16-kg turtle in his spinach pond, says he released the turtle into Đồng Đanh Canal in Thanh Chương District because he didn’t want it killed for meat.

Other Nghệ An residents have also rescued wildlife in recent months. On October 12, Nguyễn Tiến Dũng, 30, a resident of Thanh Chương District’s Thanh Thuỷ Commune, released a 13.5kg turtle into Đồng Đanh Canal after finding the animal in his pond. VNS
