‘Billionaire farmer' helps raise local farmers' incomes
The head of a local agricultural cooperative in HCM City's Hoc Mon District, who is known as a "billionaire farmer" by locals, has been generously providing advanced breeding methods to local farmers and buying fresh milk at good prices from them.
"As a cow breeder, I've experienced the difficulties that farmers face. I always try to do my best to help them increase profits," she said.
Nguyen Thi Huong, 35, created the Phung Hiep Commercial and Agricultural Services Cooperative, of which she is head. Located in Cu Chi District's Tan Hiep Commune, the cooperative buys more than seven tonnes of fresh milk at market prices every day from more than 100 local farmers.
Huong, who has had success breeding a herd of more than 40 milk cows, has also transferred new breeding technologies and supplied high-quality cow feed to farmers. The cooperative, established in 2014, also acts as a guarantor for local cow breeders to get loans for milking facilities.
Huong was one of 53 delegates in HCM City recently participating in the 9th National Patriotic Emulation Congress.
Woman with disability continues to teach for free
Tran Thi Hoa, a former primary school teacher in Bao Loc Town in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, was plucking some fruit from a guava tree for her students when she fell and suffered an injury years ago.
She would never walk again. After the fall, she had to quit her job and adjust to a life of immobility.
But her passion for teaching never ended. At first, she began teaching a mentally handicapped girl for free and then took on other students. With her devoted tutoring, students who had made poor marks began to improve.
Many university students have praised Hoa for providing the foundation for their continuing education.
