Duẩn wins stage, Eerd wears yellow jersey

With a strong showing in the final sprint, veteran racer Lê Văn Duẩn of VUS-TP.HCM beat a formidable group of rivals to the line to win the sixth stage of the VTV International Cycling Tournament – Tôn Hoa Sen Cup yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — With a strong showing in the final sprint, veteran racer Lê Văn Duẩn of VUS-TP.HCM beat a formidable group of rivals to the line to win the sixth stage of the VTV International Cycling Tournament – Tôn Hoa Sen Cup yesterday.

Duẩn won the 162 km stage from Đồng Hới to Huế with a time of 3:34.15. His average speed was over 45 kmh. Arin Iswana of Indonesia’s PGN and David Van Eerd of Netherlands’ Global finished second and third.

With his third place finish, Eerd took the yellow leader’s jersey from Hanoian Nguyễn Đắc Thời.

Eerd also retained the green jersey as the race’s best sprinter with 92 points, followed by Im Jaeyeon of South Korea’s Korail (77 points) and Trần Nguyễn Duy Nhân of Military Zone 7 (50 points).

The white jersey for the best placed young cyclist went to Thời of Hà Nội. The red king of the mountain jersey was worn by El Joshua Carino of the Philippine’s NSI.

The team rankings were unchanged. Lộc Trời Group lead with the overall best time of 48:45.34, followed by Bike Life Đồng Nai and Domesco Pharmacy Đồng Tháp.

Stage seven, 111 km from Huế to Đà Nẵng, will take place today. The red jersey competition will be decided on the mountain passes of Phước Tượng, Phú Gia and Hải Vân. — VNS
