Top Vietnamese player and first seed Lê Quang Liêm lost to grandmaster Jojua Davit of Georgia in the ninth set of the 25th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, which concluded on Wednesday (August 15).

HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese player and first seed Lê Quang Liêm lost to grandmaster Jojua Davit of Georgia in their ninth and final game of the 25th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, which concluded on Wednesday.

Liêm (Elo 2,727) lost to Davit (2,583) in just 50 moves.

It has been an unsuccessful tournament for Liêm, with five wins, three losses and one draw.

Young talent Nguyễn Anh Khôi finished on the same points as his older compatriot but with a better coefficient, which helps him rank higher.

The championship went to Daniil Dubov (Elo 2,691) of Russia, who pocketed the winner’s prize of $13,000.  — VNS
