Liêm and Khôi shine in UAE

The third day of competition at the 25th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday saw wins by both top Vietnamese player Lê Quang Liêm and young talent, Nguyễn Anh Khôi, 16.

HÀ NỘI — The third day of competition at the 25th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday saw wins by both top Vietnamese player Lê Quang Liêm and young talent, Nguyễn Anh Khôi, 16.

No 1 seed Liêm (Elo 2,727) crushed Chinese Zuo Yifan (Elo 2,334) after 45 moves.

Yifan is a young talent of China as he is only 13 years old but plays very well.

Meanwhile, Khôi (Elo 2,453) beat Patil Pratik of India (Elo 2,280) after 38 moves.

Liêm and Khôi both have two points after three matches. Liêm is in 59th place, while Khôi ranks 43rd on a tie-breaker.

Khôi’s rival in the fourth round is Gupta Abhijeet of India (Elo 2,614) and Liêm will take on another Indian rival, Soumya Swaminathan (Elo 2,361).

The event will end on August 15 with the winner receiving US$13,000. — VNS
