HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam defeated Timor Leste 4-0 in the second match of Group A at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-16 Championship in Indonesia on Tuesday.

With this win, Việt Nam are second in the group with six points, behind the hosts Indonesia who also have six points.

However, Vietnamese coach Vũ Hồng Việt wasn’t satisfied with his players because they missed many chances.

“This is the meaningful win for the team although they didn’t perform well. We hoped to score more goals,” said Việt.

Việt Nam will next face Indonesia on August 2.

“The match with Indonesia will be rather difficult. They have good skills and will have the support of home fans, however, we will try our best to beat them,” said Việt.

Việt Nam are in Group A alongside Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines. Following the match with the hosts, Việt Nam will meet the Philippines on August 4 and Myanmar on August 6.

The AFF tournament will be a warm-up for Việt Nam to prepare for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship to be held in Malaysia in September. — VNS
