Quyết replaces Trường as captain of U23 Olympic Việt Nam

Vietnamese striker Nguyễn Văn Quyết from Hà Nội Club has been selected as captain of the Olympic Việt Nam team by head coach Park Hang Seo to compete at Asiad 2018, which will be held from August 19 to September 1 in Indonesia.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese striker Nguyễn Văn Quyết from Hà Nội Club has been selected as captain of the Olympic Việt Nam team by head coach Park Hang Seo to compete at Asiad 2018, which will be held from August 19 to September 1 in Indonesia.

Quyết was chosen to replace midfielder Lương Xuân Trường, who was captain of the U23 Việt Nam team at U23 Asia 2018.

Speaking about his new selection, Coach Park said Quyết holds more experience, skills and stronger nerves than Trường.

“This is just a temporary decision,” he said. “On August 7, the whole team will meet up again to vote for the official formation. The next day, we will fly to Bình Dương Province before heading to Indonesia on August 11.”

Together with Nguyễn Anh Đức, Quyết is the most experienced and skillful player in the Olympic Việt Nam lineup at present. On the national team, he is also the captain while Trường is one of the assistant captains. — VNS
