Tiên enters 100m final of Asian athletics event

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athlete Huỳnh Thị Mỹ Tiên qualified for the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Asian Junior Athletics Championship in Japan yesterday.

The southern province of Vĩnh Long-born player Tiên clocked a time of 14.08secs in the qualifying round to make the final. Tiên’s personal best is a national record time of 14.01secs.

Today, Tiên will fight for gold against strong rivals such as Lin Hsiao Hui of Chinese Taipei who topped the qualification with a time of 13.88secs.

Meanwhile, Nguyễn Văn Châu will compete in the men’s 200m and Cao Võ Ngọc Long will take part in the men’s high jump.

On Thursday, Vũ Thị Ngọc Hà brought home Việt Nam’s first gold medal in the triple jump. She jumped 13.22m, beating China’s Pan Youqui by approximately one centimetre. — VNS
