HÀ NỘI — The Return to the Countryside Cycling Tournament, Gạo Hạt Ngọc Trời Cup, is scheduled to begin on May 10.

For the first time the event will include the participation of cyclists aged 16-22.

About 63 cyclists from eight domestic teams and one foreign team will compete over 11 stages, covering 939km, through 11 provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta, including Kiên Giang, Cà Mau, Bạc Liêu and Sóc Trăng.

They will begin at Ngọc Island in Phú Quốc, Kiên Giang Province and finish at Long Xuyên City in An Giang Province on May 19.

The eight-day event has a total cash prize of VNĐ600 million (US$26,000).

“After 23 years, the event is growing stronger. This year, the tournament will be open for U22 cyclists. This is a good sign, as we need to invest in and develop young cyclists for Việt Nam’s professional cycling,” said Ngô Quang Vinh, deputy chairman of the Việt Nam Cycling and Motor Sport Federation.

The tournament is being jointly hosted by the Việt Nam Cycling and Motor Sport Federation and Lộc Trời Group. — VNS
