Minh wins two titles at national chess tourney

HÀ NỘI — Lê Tuấn Minh of Bình Dương won two titles at the National Chess Championships, which closed yesterday in HCM City.

Minh won both blitz (eight points) and rapid (7.5 points) events after nine matches each.

On the women’s side, Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên from Cần Thơ took the rapid gold medal with eight points, while Lương Phương Hạnh of Hà Nội topped the blitz category, earning 7.5 points after nine games.

Earlier, Trần Tuấn Minh of Hà Nội and Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm from HCM City won the men’s and women’s standard chess pools, respectively.

According to the organisers, this year saw a high quality tournament as it lured many national best masters. It also was said that this tournament would provide an opportunity for the national coaching board to select members for the national team for the coming tournaments this year. — VNS
