Tuấn, Trâm win national chess titles

HÀ NỘI — Trần Tuấn Minh and Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm won the National Chess Championships’ standard event yesterday in HCM City.

Defending champion of No.1 Seed Minh of Hà Nội triumphed in the men’s category with seven points after nine matches.

He was followed by Trần Quốc Dũng and Đào Thiên Hải, both of HCM City.

On the women’s side, reigning champion Trâm of the hosts earned seven points to top the podium.

Her teammates Bạch Ngọc Thùy Dương and Nguyễn Thị Thanh An came second and third, respectively.

This year, national top masters Lê Quang Liêm and Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn (on the men’s side) and Phạm Lê Thảo Nguyên and Võ Thị Kim Phụng (on the women’s side) did not take part in the event.

Masters will continue with blitz and rapid events in the coming days. Grandmaster Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn will defend his blitz title while his wife Women’s GM Nguyên will check mate to secure a title after finishing second in both blitz and rapid pools last year.

The championships will conclude on May 6. — VNS
