HÀ NỘI — V.League 1 club HCM City announced yesterday that they chose not to sign former Manchester United midfielder Rodrigo Possebon after more than a month on trial.

The club said the Brazilian footballer wasn’t up to snuff and suffered a reoccurance of a back injury.

Possebon joined HCM City on January 16 but didn’t practice much because of his back pain.

Possebon played for Manchester United during 2008-10, making eight appearances.

Since leaving United, Possebon played for various clubs across various tiers in Brazil.

Possebon won the U20 Brazilian Championship in 2006, FA Community Shield in 2008, Football League Cup in 2008-09 and the Campeonato Paulista and Copa Libertadores in 2011.

After the Tết holidays, HCM City are training intensively. They will have two friendly matches before the national premier league begins in March. — VNS
