HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s two leading billiards players will compete in the World Championship in Viersen, Germany on February 22-25.

Representing Việt Nam are world No 10 Nguyễn Quốc Nguyện and world No 16 Trần Quyết Chiến.

The tournament will attract the participation of 16 strong billiard nations, such as South Korea, Turkey, the Netherlands, Greece, Denmark, Belgium and France.

“We are eager to take part in the tournament. We aren’t afraid of facing any rivals. We will try our best in each game,” said Nguyện.

“We have to be very good to reach the final rounds. Self-confidence is very important. We look forward to joining the party in Viersen,’’ Nguyện added.

Billiards player Chiến was also confident, saying, “During Việt Nam’s Lunar New Year we trained and co-ordinated with each other very well. We hope that we will have a good start this year”.

Việt Nam is in Group C, alongside South Korea, Denmark and Greece. Việt Nam will first meet South Korea with two strong players: world No 12 Choi Sung-won and world No 17 Kang Dong-koong.

The winners will walk away with a prize of US$9,800, while runners-up will receive $7,400, and third and fourth place winners will be awarded a bonus of $4,400. — VNS
