Over 8,000 marathoners to participate in Taiwan Excellence

The fifth Taiwan Excellence marathon will be organised on Sunday in HCM City. More than 8,000 runners are expected to participate.

HÀ NỘI — The fifth Taiwan Excellence marathon will be organised on Sunday in HCM City. More than 8,000 runners are expected to participate.

Athletes from 49 countries and territories, including powerhouses such as Japan, the United States, Chinese Taipei and France, will take part in the marathon, ranging from 5km to 42km. Phú Mỹ Hưng Urban Area in District 7 will be the starting point.

This year’s run will see the participation of well-known runners, including former Olympic medallist Naoko Takahashi from Japan and 2017 Southeast Asian Games men and women’s champions Soh Rui Yong from Singapore and Mary Joy Tabal of the Philippines, respectively.

Iron woman Vũ Phương Thanh, the first Vietnamese to conquer a 250km marathon in Chile’s Atacama desert, will participate in the event together with other national celebrities and artists.

Recognised as a national tournament, Taiwan Excellence will award up to VNĐ200 million (US$9,000) to the winners, besides gift hampers worth VNĐ100 million ($4,500). — VNS
