Former table tennis stars to do battle

An open tournament for former national table tennis team players will be held in HCM City on December 29-31.

HÀ NỘI — An open tournament for former national table tennis team players will be held in HCM City on December 29-31.

The event at Tân Bình Gymnasium is expected to gather big names such as 1995, 1997 and 2001 Southeast Asian Games winner Vũ Mạnh Cường and former national team head coach Nguyễn Đức Long, both from Hải Dương Province, and 1995 SEA Games silver medallist and 1995 and 1996 national champion Lý Minh Triết of the People’s Police squad on the men’s side.

On the women’s side, Vũ Thị Noel, Nguyễn Thị Tuyết, both of the Army team, and Nguyễn Bích Ngọc from Hà Nội, have confirmed their attendance.

Organisers hope the competition will be an opportunity for the former top players to compete and for table tennis lovers to watch their idols’ once again. — VNS
