HÀ NỘI — Kenya’s athletes dominated at the 2017 Techcombank HCM City International Marathon held in HCM City on November 26.

Jane Rotich of Kenya took gold in the women’s 42km with a time of 3:2.34. Caroline Kigen of Kenya took the silver medal with a time of 3:15.05, while the bronze medal went to Vietnamese Nguyễn Chi after clocking a time of 3:22.04.

On the men’s side, Peter Keter of Kenya also triumphed with a time of 2:28.47. The runners-up were Birgen Geoffrey of Kenya with a time of 2:35.46 and Vietnamese Đỗ Quốc Luật with a time of 2:43.59.

The event’s organisers also awarded medals for the winners of the 21km and 10km in five age groups of 18-69.

The first prize for the 42 km run was US$5,000 USD and $1,000 for both the 21 km and 10 km events.

Besides encouraging local sporting spirit, the event also aimed to provide a chance for international and domestic tourists to join local cultural and sport activities, thus promoting the image of the city as an attractive, friendly and safe destination.

The event attracted the participation of more than 5,000 athletes from 44 countries and territories.

In the framework of the tournament, a Kid Run was also held for children aged between 6–14 on November 25. — VNS
