HÀ NỘI — Two Vietnamese representatives lost at the World Junior and Girls U20 Chess Championship in Italy on Wednesday.

Grandmaster (GM) Trần Tuấn Minh was unexpectedly defeated by International Master (IM) Harsha Brahathakothi of India in the third round match.

Minh now sits at No 36. He will next play IM Bersamina Paulo of the Philippines.

His teammate IM Trần Minh Thắng, meanwhile, maintained his poor performance, losing to untitled Dario Bischofberger of Switzerland.

Thắng currently only has 0.5 point from a draw in which he is ranked No 127. He will play Juan Heinechen of Paraguay next.

After three rounds, GM Kirill Alekseenko of Russia is on top with three points. He is followed by GM Ori Kobo of Israel and IM Aleksey Sorokin of Russia. — VNS
