HÀ NỘI — HCM City Wings defeated Cantho Catfish 85-67, in game 36 of the Việt Nam Basketball Association (VBA) League in HCM City on Tuesday .
Cantho Catfish and Thang Long Warriors are the first two teams to have earned tickets to compete in the event’s play-off round.
Meanwhile, the Wings had to beat the Catfish to raise their hope of going further.
The Wings showed their determination from the first quarter. Bilal Richardson, Henry Nguyễn and Triệu Hán Minh shone to help the Wings take the lead. The Catfish didn’t show a very strong performance.
In the third quarter, the visiting side only scored 10 points, while the hosts scored 28 points to end this period with 70-45.
The Catfish fought back strongly in the last quarter with the effort of young talent, such as Trương Trần Nhân Hậu, Huỳnh Trung Nghĩa, Huỳnh Thanh Tâm and Huỳnh Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.
They scored 22 points with many three-point throws but that wasn’t enough for them to win against the Wings and finally suffered a loss of 67-85.
With 22 points and 16 rebounds, Bilal Richardson of the Wings won the MVP award of the game.
The Wings will next face Hanoi Buffaloes in Hà Nội on Saturday, while the Catfish will play against Saigon Heat in Cần Thơ on Thursday. — VNS
