HÀ NỘI — Duo Phùng Văn Nam and Vũ Anh Duy won gold medals at the National Springboard Diving Championships.

The event kicked off at the Mỹ Đình National Sports Complex in Hà Nội on September 25.

The Hanoian pair took the lead with 277.50 points in the men’s doubles’ 3m soft board. Dương Văn Thành and Nguyễn Tùng Dương of Hải Phòng won the silver medal with 224.43 points. HCM City’s Bùi Xuân Hào and Võ Trọng Thành bagged the bronze medal with 213.24 points.

In the women’s doubles’ hard board, Nguyễn Vũ Thảo Quyên and Nguyễn Vũ Thảo Quỳnh of HCM City triumphed with 213.45 points, followed by the pairs from Hà Nội and Quảng Ninh.

In the men’s singles’ 1m soft board, Hải Phòng’s Dương Văn Thành bagged the gold medal with 270.30 points. Hanoian Nam and Nguyễn Tùng Dương of Hải Phòng took the silver and bronze medals.

The event, which continues until September 28, attracted the participation of 23 players from seven teams, including Hà Nội, Hải Dương, Hải Phòng and Quảng Ninh.

The four-day event is an opportunity for the National Sports Administration to assess coaches and athletes and select outstanding athletes for the national springboard team.

Although springboard is not a popular sport in Việt Nam, Vietnamese athletes brought home gold medals from the Southeast Asian Games in 2003 and 2009. — VNS
