Singaporeans victorious at Saigon rugby event

The Singapore Barbarians won the title in the Grade A Mens 10’s category at the Wolf Blass Saigon Rugby 10’s Season 3 Tournament held at RMIT University in HCM City’s District 7.

HÀ NỘI — The Singapore Barbarians won the title in the Grade A Mens 10’s category at the Wolf Blass Saigon Rugby 10’s Season 3 Tournament held at RMIT University in HCM City’s District 7.

The runners-up in this division were Bangkok Southerners, who lost to the Singapore Barbarians 0-28 in the final.

The champions of the men’s over 35’s also belonged to the Singapore Barbarians team. The KK Sharks of Malaysia were the runners-up.

The Singapore Bucks were named the victors in the women’s event, followed by the ladies of the Shining Rahus from Cambodia

This year’s tournament attracted 27 teams and 450 players from 10 countries such as Malaysia, Japan, Cambodia, Thai Lan, Singapore and Australia.

The event was organised by the Al Fresco’s Group (AFG), in co-operation with the Wolf Blass Wines and the Castelo Group, Hong Kong.

It aimed to put HCM City firmly on the map as a destination in Asia to play rugby and have a fantastic time doing it.

The tournament was opened free for all spectators and attracted a large number of expats living in HCM City. It included fun for kids and adults as well as great rugby, food and drink. There was a fun activity area hosted by International School Ho Chi Minh City for kids and rugby kid coaching clinic.

“I have never participated in such a great tournament before. Everything is fantastic, from being welcomed at the Tân Sơn Nhất airport to a pool party and the tournament at RMIT campus,” said Lena Brantmark, a member of Singapore Bucks. “We were welcomed as valued guests and surely we will come back to play in next year’s event here in HCM City.”

Nick Dance, a player of the Singapore Barbarians said, “This is the second year I came and played in this tournament. It is the best tournament I have ever known. Everything is great from location, food, medical care, parties….  We have a lot of fun during the tournament. It is awesome. We look forward to the 2018 Wolf Blass Saigon Rugby 10’s tournament next year.” — VNS
