HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam defeated Indonesia 3-0 in the third match of Group B of the AFF U18 Championship held in Myanmar yesterday, Việt Nam’s third consecutive victory.

Earlier, Việt Nam crushed Brunei 8-1 and beat the Philippines 5-0, while Indonesia also started strongly, defeating Myanmar 2-1 and hammering the Philippines 9-0.

Before the match, coach Indra Sjafri of Indonesia was very confident in his team, saying he knew the Vietnamese squad thoroughly. However, Việt Nam triumphed with a 3-0 victory.

Việt Nam pushed forwards from the opening whistle, pinning Indonesia back.

In the 41st minute, from a corner kick in the right wing, Lê Văn Nam opened the scoring for Việt Nam.

Before the first half closed, Nam doubled Việt Nam’s advantage after receiving a pass from Phạm Văn Luân.

After the break, Indonesia improved but failed to seriously threaten Việt Nam’s goal.

In the 86th minute, Bùi Hoàng Việt Anh headed past the Indonesian goalkeeper to put the icing on the cake.

Việt Nam now top the group with nine points, followed by Indonesia with six points. They will meet the hosts Myanmar in the last group match tomorrow. They only need a draw to qualify for the tournament’s semi-finals. — VNS
