HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn ended his journey at the Chess World Cup after losing in the tie-break to Indian Adhiban Baskaran on Tuesday in Georgia.

The two Grandmasters played two rapid and two blitz matches, which ended 3.5-2.5 in favour of the Indian.

The loss resulted in the elimination of the world No 154 from the event, and Sơn’s rating was reduced by 19 ELO points.

Sơn was defeated in the first round for the first time after four consecutive events.

Tonight, his teammate Grandmaster Lê Quang Liêm will compete against Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, also from India, in two matches in the second round. — VNS
