Tươi wins gold in pencal silat

Vietnamese martial artist Phạm Thị Tươi won the first gold medal for the Vietnamese pencak silat team in the women’s 50kg combat category at the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia today (August 29).

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese martial artist Phạm Thị Tươi won the first gold medal for the Vietnamese pencak silat team in the women’s 50kg combat category at the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia today (August 29).

Tươi defeated Singapore’s Atiq Syazwani Binte Roslan 5-0 in the final match. “I am very happy to win the gold medal at the SEA Games, which I took part in for the first time. I hope that my teammates will also triumph in the other categories being played later,” she said.

Earlier, Nguyễn Đình Tuấn bagged a silver medal in the men’s 55kg (combat); the gold went to Malaysia’s Faizul Nasir.

In the final weightlifting match for the men’s 69kg, Phạm Tuấn Anh bagged a bronze medal with a total lift of 306kg. The 22-year-old lifted 135kg in snatch and 171kg in clean and jerk.

Indonesia’s Deni Deni took the gold medal with a total lift of 312kg, while Trirat Boonsuk of Thailand won the silver with 310kg. — VNS
