Swimmer Viên wins two golds

Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên won two gold medals in a late swimming event at the Southeast Asian Games yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Nguyễn Thị Ánh Viên won two gold medals in a late swimming event at the Southeast Asian Games yesterday.

Ginn Yeo of Singapore took a silver medal with a time of 2:16.85. While Kania Dewi of Indonesia won bronze with a time of 2:17.46.

In the 800m freestyle, Viên also triumphed with a time of 8:35.55.

The win marked Viên’s fifth gold medal at the Games. Earlier, she bagged golds in the 100m and 200m backstroke and 400m freestyle.

In the men’s 100 freestyle, Hoàng Quý Phước grabbed a silver with his time of 49.31sec, while Singapore Olympic champion Joseph Schooling made it four gold medals out of four events at the Games after winning the 100m freestyle. Schooling’s national compatriot Darren Lim clocked 50.56sec to take home the bronze.

In athletics, Nguyễn Thị Huyền took gold medal in the women’s 400m after clocking a time of 52.48sec. Bùi Văn Đông brought home a gold medal in the men’s long jump and Dương Thị Việt Anh also won gold in the women’s high jump. — VNS
