Khôi wins standard category at national chess event

HÀ NỘI — Fifteen-year-old chess player Nguyễn Anh Khôi won the men’s standard category title at the National Chess Team Championship in HCM City.

The young “International Master” tied Grandmaster Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn in the last and ninth round after more than three hours.

Following seven wins and two draws, Khôi took the lead with eight points.

Nguyễn Đức Hòa of the Military team and Nguyễn Văn Huy of Hà Nội were the runners-up with the same points of 6.5.

Khôi won the world title in the U10 division in 2012 and U12 event in 2014.

In the women’s competition, Bạch Ngọc Thùy Dương overcame many famous names such as Hoàng Thị Bảo Trâm, Nguyễn Thị Mai Hưng and Đặng Bích Ngọc to win the title with 7.5 points. — VNS
