Vietnamese gymnasts won three gold medals at the ongoing ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore on July 17.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese gymnasts won three gold medals at the ongoing ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore on July 17.

Phạm Như Phương from Hà Nội won Việt Nam’s first gold medal in the gymnastics event in the uneven bars.

HCM City’s Đặng Ngọc Xuân Thiện bagged a gold medal in the pommel horse, while Hanoian Đỗ Nam Anh also brought home a gold in the uneven bars.

Vietnamese gymnasts have also won five silvers and four bronzes.

On July 17, track-and-field athletes won two golds and two silvers.

Nguyễn Trung Cường of Hà Nội took the lead in the boys’ 1,500m, while Ngô Thị Khánh Ny finished first in the girls’ 800m category.

After three days of competition, Việt Nam have won 13 golds, 18 silvers and eight bronzes to rank fourth in the medal tally.

Indonesia are leading with 19 golds, 21 silvers and 17 bronzes; and Thailand are the runners-up with 19 golds, 13 silvers and 19 bronzes. The hosts Singapore are fifth with 17 golds, 19 silvers and 19 bronzes.

Around 1,750 students from all 10 ASEAN member countries are participating in the event, which will conclude on July 20. — VNS
