Nine Vietnamese cueists will compete in the three-cushion World Cup championship in Porto, Portugal.

HÀ NỘI — Nine Vietnamese cueists will compete in the three-cushion World Cup championship in Porto, Portugal.

Đỗ Đức Hiển, world No 2,262, advanced from the first qualifying round late yesterday. Other cueists will begin playing on July 4-5.

Trần Quyết Chiến, world No 15, Mã Minh Cẩm, world No 18, Dương Anh Vũ, world No 29, Ngô Đình Nại, No 35 and Mã Xuân Cường, No 37 will take part in a qualifying round on July 6.

Only Nguyễn Quốc Nguyện, world No 13, will automatically enter the main round on July 7.

Nguyện vaulted on to the world stage and cemented his reputation by winning the recent 2017 Asian Federation Championship in South Korea. He won two bronze medals in the World Cup in 2014 and 2016, brought home a silver in an Asian event in 2013 and a gold in the Southeast Asian Games in 2011.

According to coach Nguyễn Việt Hòa, these players are at their peak at present and should perform well.
