HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s tennis ace, Lý Hoàng Nam, has climbed 62 places to rank 475th in the latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings announced on Monday.

It is the highest ranking that a Vietnamese tennis player has achieved so far.

Nam, a native of Tây Ninh Province, won the recent Thailand F3 Men’s Futures tennis tournament, adding 18 points to his total.

Nam, 20, is one of 32 top players in Asia. In Southeast Asia, he ranks only behind Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia, who is in 463rd place.

Among other Vietnamese tennis players, Trịnh Linh Giang is ranked 1,351st and Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên is world No 1,472 in the men’s singles category.

In the men’s doubles category, Nam stays at 503 and Thiên is at 752.

Nam will compete in the China F11 Men’s Futures tennis tournament this week. The event has a prize money of US$25,000 and 27 points for the winner. — VNS
