Vietnamese masters win golds in Eastern Asian youth chess champs

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam grabbed six gold medals in the second Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championships’ blitz events in Mongolia.

World champion Phạm Trần Gia Phúc had no difficulty winning the U8 Open’s blitz event, winning all the nine points after nine matches.

His teammates Nguyễn Thái Minh Hiếu won in the U6 Open’s blitz; Trần Đặng Minh Quang was the champion in the U12 Open; Trần Minh Thắng triumphed in the U18 Open; Vương Quỳnh Anh took the title in the U12 Girls; and Nguyễn Hồng Anh topped the U16 Girls.

Vietnamese young masters also grabbed seven silver and three bronze medals.

Athletes are now competing in the standard chess categories.

The championship will conclude on Sunday. — VNS
