Nam wins first round at Thailand F3 Futures

Vietnamese top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam beat Roberts Charles of Thailand in the men’s singles first round of the Thailand F3 Futures tennis tournament yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam beat Charles Roberts of Thailand in the first round of the Thailand F3 Futures tennis tournament yesterday.

Nam dominated the match, beating the 18-year-old 6-0, 6-3 in 48 minutes. He will meet Edward Bourchier of Australia, world No 1,538, in the second round.

In the men’s doubles, Nam and Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên, No 3 seeds, defeated Indian pair Ankit Chopra and Sidharth Rawat 6-0, 6-3 to enter the quarter-finals.

Nam also achieved the best ranking of his career yesterday, making Vietnamese tennis history at 529th in the world. He made it to the semifinals of the men’s singles of the Singapore F3 Futures tennis tournament a week ago.

Nam aims to crack the world’s top 500 this year. — VNS
