HÀ NỘI — The TPBank World Amateur Golfers Championship 2017 is scheduled to kick off next month, officials announced at a press conference in Hà Nội yesterday.

The tournament’s elimination round for golfers from the south will be held at Tân Sơn Nhất Golf Course, HCM City on July 7. The elimination round for golfers from the north will be held at Sky Lake Golf Course in Chương Mỹ District in Hà Nội on August 11.

The golfers will be divided into five groups based on golf handicap. The best golfers from each group will be selected to compete in the final round to be held in Taekwang Jeongsan Golf Course in Đồng Nai Province on September 9.

The final five winners will then join in the World Finals, to be held in Malaysia in November.

This year’s event has total prize of more than VNĐ3 billion (US$130,400). The director of this year’s competition is Malaysia’s Wayne Johnson.

The tournament is a part of the World Amateur Golfers Championship, which is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious amateur golf tournaments.

Việt Nam began participating in the World Amateur Golf Championship in 2011. The tournament gives Vietnamese amateur golfers a chance to meet and compete with international golfers. — VNS
