Việt Nam secured their first win over New Zealand at the Sudirman Cup badminton tournament at the Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre in Gold Coast, Australia, yesterday.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam secured their first win over New Zealand at the Sudirman Cup badminton tournament at the Carrara Sport and Leisure Centre in Gold Coast, Australia, yesterday.

National top athlete Nguyễn Tiến Minh beat Dylan Soedjasa 21-8, 21-7 in the men’s singles match.

His wife and teammate Vũ Thị Trang defeated Sally Fu 21-6, 21-5 in the women’s singles.

Duo Đỗ Tuấn Đức and Phạm Như Thảo won 21-13, 18-21, 22-20 against Oliver Leydon-Davis and Susannah Leydon-Davis in the mixed doubles.

Earlier, Nguyễn Thùy Linh and Phạm Như Thảo had no difficulty winning 21-16, 21-11 against Anona Pak and Danielle Tahuri in the women’s doubles.

Đỗ Tuấn Đức and Phạm Hồng Nam made a strong come back to beat Kevin Dennerly-Minturn and Oliver Leydon-Davis 18-21, 21-14, 12-21.

Việt Nam will play the second match of Group 2A against Canada tomorrow.
