HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội emerged victorious from the National Individual Badminton Tournament, which has wrapped up in the southern province of Đồng Nai.

The team brought home two gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Bắc Giang Province came in second with two golds and one bronze. HCM City finished third with one gold, one silver and one bronze.

In the mixed doubles’s final match, Đỗ Tuấn Đức and Phạm Như Thảo of Hà Nội beat their teammates Phạm Hồng Nam and Nguyễn Thị Mai Anh to take the title.

In the men’s doubles, Đức and Nam defeated Nguyễn Hoàng Anh and Trần Quốc Việt of the Ministry of Public Security 21-18, 11-21, 21-17 to take the lead.

In the women’s doubles, Vũ Thị Trang and Nguyễn Thị Sen of Bắc Giang defeated Đinh Thị Phương Hồng and Đỗ Thị Hoài of Thái Bình Province 21-9, 19-21, 21-16 to bag the gold.

In the women’s singles final, Trang of Bắc Giang beat Đà Nẵng’s Nguyễn Thùy Linh 21-11, 17-21, 21-9.

In the men’s singles final, Viet Nam’s top player, Nguyễn Tiến Minh of HCM City, crushed his teammate Phạm Cao Cường 21-17, 13-21, 21-15 to earn his 14th title.

According to the Việt Nam Badminton Federation’s General Secretary Lê Thanh Sang, the winners earned berths to compete in the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia this August. Việt Nam hopes to win two bronze medals at the region’s biennial festival. — VNS
