The HCM City Television Cup Cycling Tournament will kick off on April 9 in HCM City, the event’s organizing board has announced.

HÀ NỘI — The HCM City Television Cup Cycling Tournament will kick off Saturday in HCM City, the event’s organizing board has announced.

Seventy-eight cyclists from 13 teams will compete across 20 stages totalling 2,000km.

Veterans Nguyễn Thành Tâm, Trịnh Đức Tâm of An Giang, Huỳnh Thanh Tùng of Military Zone 7 and Phan Hoàng Thái of Đồng Tháp will compete at the tournament.

Teams are allowed to hire foreign cyclists to compete for their teams.

The event will offer the biggest prize in Việt Nam cycling history: VNĐ1.2 billion (US$52,200).

The winner of the tournament will take home VNĐ100 million ($4,400), while the runners-up will get VNĐ50 million ($2,200) and VNĐ30 million ($1,300).

The winning team will receive VNĐ80 million ($3,500).

The event will finish on April 30. — VNS
