Liêm named No 29 in chess world rankings

Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm has risen four places, from No 33 to No 29, in FIDE’s world rankings for April.

HÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm has risen four places, from No 33 to No 29, in FIDE’s world rankings for April.

His Elo rating also jumped from 2712 to 2726, the best Elo rating in Vietnamese chess history. (The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in competitor-versus-competitor games such as chess).

Liêm won the international chess tournament, HD Bank 2017, held in HCM City and the College Final Four held in the US.

His career best ranking was No 27 in April of 2013.

Other Vietnamese representatives Nguyễn Ngọc Trường Sơn and Trần Tuấn Minh ranked 149th and 524th in the world, with Elo ratings of 2623 and 2534, respectively. — VNS
