HÀ NỘI – Việt Nam’s U-23 footballers will compete in Group I of the qualification round for 2018 U-23 AFC Championship in China as the group’s host with South Korea, Macau and Timor Leste.

Thanks to Việt Nam’s participation in last year’s championship in Qatar, the team was seeded in pot 2, with pot 1 including the region’s powerhouses such as Australia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea and Thailand.

“Playing on home ground will improve Việt Nam’s chances to enter the 2018 final round in China. It will also prepare our players for the 29th Southeast Asian Games in August in Malaysia,” said vice chairman of Việt Nam Football Federation Trần Quốc Tuấn.

In a recent interview with the media U-23 head coach Nguyễn Hữu Thắng confirmed playing in the final round of 2018 U-23 AFC Championships was one of the team’s key objectives.
