Việt Nam fourth at junior Davis, Fed cups

Vietnamese athletes finished fourth in both the Junior Davis Cup and the Junior Fed Cup tennis tournaments which ended in India over the weekend.

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese athletes finished fourth in both the Junior Davis Cup and the Junior Fed Cup tennis tournaments which ended in India over the weekend.

The boys lost 0-2 to No. 3 seed Lebanon, while Phạm Đức Phú was beaten 4-6, 1-6 by Sadek Jalai and Võ Hoàng Hùng let his rival Roy Tabet come from behind to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The Philippines bagged the title winning 2-1 against Singapore.

Meanwhile the girls were defeated 1-2 by Singapore. Nguyễn Thị Mai Hương, however, pushed Việt Nam ahead with a 7-6 (6), 6-1 over Tan Tammy. Goh Joelle leveled the result after beating Trần Thụy Thanh Trúc 6-3, 6-2. In the doubles match, Minh Phương/Thanh Trúc were beaten by Joelle/Wong Tessa 6-3, 7-5.

The gold medal went to Pacific Oceania who beat Sri Lanka 2-0. — VNS
