Việt Nam lost to Hong Kong 2-3 following three days of competition in the first round matches of the Davis Cup’s Group II, Asia Oceania Zone.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam lost to Hong Kong 2-3 following three days of competition in the first round matches of the Davis Cup’s Group II, Asia Oceania Zone.

The match was held at the Phú Thọ Tennis Club in HCM City.

On the last day — February 5 —  Việt Nam’s top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam, who is world No 635, beat world No 911 Wong Hong Kit 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 in the second singles match.

In the other second singles match, former world No 284 Karan Rastoghi crushed Vietnamese player Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên, who is world No 1,443, 6-7, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1.

Earlier, the Vietnamese team lost to Hong Kong 1-3 in the men’s doubles event and tied 1-1 with them in the first singles match.

Following this result, Việt Nam will compete against Iran from April 7 to 9 for a chance to stay in Group II. — VNS
