Nam wins first single match in Men’s Futures

HÀ NỘI — Lý Hoàng Nam of Việt Nam won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 over qualified player Maxime Cressy of France in the singles event’s first round match of the Thailand F6 Men’s Futures yesterday in Hua Hin.

It took the Vietnamese 103 minutes to book a berth in the second round where he will play the winner of the match between No 1 seed Dmitry Popko of Kazakhstan and Ryota Tanuma of Japan.

Nam, who plans to reach the semi-final round here, ranks 662nd in the world, four steps lower compared to his position last week, according to the latest release by the ATP.

His teammate Trịnh Linh Giang who also booked his slot in the next round at the Hua Hin event also goes down to No 2,054.

Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên, one of three Vietnamese named in ATP’s list, drops to No 1,439. — VNS
