Nominees for Golden Ball Awards announced

HÀ NỘI — Sài Gòn Giải Phóng (Saigon Liberation) newspaper yesterday announced the list of candidates for its 2016 Golden Ball awards.

The men’s Golden Ball award is for footballers playing in domestic tournaments and the national football team. There are 15 candidates for this category including Lê Công Vinh, Hoàng Đình Tùng, Vũ Văn Thanh, Đinh Thanh Trung and Nguyễn Trọng Hoàng.

Nguyễn Tuấn Anh, Lương Xuân Trường and Nguyễn Công Phượng are playing for foreign clubs so are not eligible.

The organising committee also announced the list of nominees in other categories including the Golden Ball award for women, the best young male player, the best young female player, the best foreign player and the best futsal player.

The event aims to honour players who have contributed to Vietnamese football over the year at both domestic and international competitions.

The 2016 Golden Ball awards gala will be held on January 4 next year. — VNS
