HÀ NỘI — V.League 1 side FLC Thanh Hóa have signed coach Ljubomir Petrovic of Serbia for the new football season.

The contract’s value and length have not been revealed.

The 69-year-old coach has 34 years experience in Europe, the Middle East and China.

Petrovic won the European Cup (now UEFA Champions League) with Red Star Belgrade in 1991.

He also helped Beijing Guoan take the Chinese FA Cup in 2003.

In May, he was unveiled as the new manager of Levski Sofia, replacing Stoycho Stoey. He left the club after five months.

Petrovic also managed Levski Sofia in 2000-01, winning the Championship.

“Working with FLC Thanh Hóa is a wonderful chance for me. Thanh Hóa are a strong team who have strict discipline and careful investment. The team has many skilful young talents. However, the team must work harder and it’s important that they have concentration and solidarity,” said Petrovic.

Thanh Hóa finished sixth out of 14 teams in the national premier league this year.

Earlier, HCM City FC also signed a foreign coach, bringing a former Ligue 1 coach in Frenchman Alain Fiard on board. — VNS
