Việt Nam have jumped seven steps to world No 129 in the latest FIFA rankings.

HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam have jumped seven steps to world No 129 in the latest FIFA rankings.

The team beat Indonesia 3-2 in a friendly match and then bested Myanmar and Malaysia at the ongoing ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup.

Other teams in the Southeast Asian region also improved their rankings. The Philippines rose seven steps to world No 117 to lead the region. With a draw with Australia in the World Cup 2018’s qualifying round, Thailand rose 17 steps to share the position of 129 with Việt Nam. Việt Nam and Thailand are second and third in the region.

Malaysia also increased eight places to world No 156 to rank fourth. Fifth place is Singapore who jumped nine steps to world No 162. Notably, Laos rose eight slots to world No 167.

In Asia, No 1 position belonged to Iran (world No 30), followed by South Korea (world No 37) and Japan (world No 45).

Despite subpart play in the World Cup 2018 qualifiers, Argentina were still ranked first.  Brazil and Germany were the runners-up. — VNS
