Nam out of Vietnam Open after second round

HÀ NỘI — Lý Hoàng Nam could not spring any surprises against No 8 seed Tatsuma Ito of Japan in the Vietnam Open tennis tournament held in HCM City yesterday.

World No 683 Nam from the host country lost 2-6, 1-6 to the No 162-ranked player in the second round match of the men’s singles event after 75 minutes.

Nam won only one Men’s Futures two weeks ago, while Ito has won six Challengers and seven Men’s Futures trophies.

No other Vietnamese players are left in the singles category.

In another sporting event on the same day, Yasutaka Uchimaya defeated Akari Santillan 6-2, 6-4 in an all-Japanese match. Uchimaya will face Ito in today’s quarter-finals.

Another quarter-final match will see Taro Daniel vs Go Soeda, who are both from Japan.

The four other players in the last eight-round have not been identified yet. — VNS
