HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s top tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam has jumped 228 spots to 701 in the men’s singles rankings in the latest Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world rankings.

This is the highest the 19-year old has ever ranked, and marks the highest ranking ever for a Vietnamese athlete in the sport.

Nam won both the men’s singles and men’s doubles title at the recent Việt Nam F5 Men’s Futures tennis tournament in the southern province of Bình Dương.

At the Việt Nam F6 Men’s Futures, Nam got to the quarter-finals of the men’s singles but that tournament wasn’t considered for the latest ATP rankings. When they are updated, Nam is expected to rank in the top 700.

Nam, who won the Wimbledon boys’ doubles, aims to break the top 500 this year.

In the men’s doubles category, Nam ranks 814 in the world, while Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên ranks 909. — VNS
