Shuttlecock teams sweep gold in Asian Beach Games

Việt Nam won both the men’s and women’s gold medals in the beach shuttlecock in Day 6 of the 5th Asian Beach Games – marking the 7th gold medal won in the sport.

ĐÀ NẴNG — Việt Nam won both the men’s and women’s gold medals in the beach shuttlecock on day six of the 5th Asian Beach Games – marking the 7th gold medal won in the sport.

It’s also the last day of the sport that Việt Nam excelled in competition against tough rivals from Thailand and China.

The men’s team took a 2-0 (21-8, 21-13) win over China, while the women’s squad beat Thailand in two sets, 21-12, 21-13.

The hosts also grabbed two of three golds in Vovinam on the day.

The men’s team scored 275 points to win gold in the men’s leg attack technique event – ahead of Myanmar and Cambodia.

Cambodia also took gold in the women’s weapon self-defence event at East Sea Park venue yesterday.

Myanmar and Việt Nam bagged silver and bronze in the event, respectively.

In the men’s weapon self-defence, Myanmar scored 272 points for their performance, beating Việt Nam, in second with 268 points, and Laos, in third with 261 points.

Vietnamese Nguyễn Thị Vinh edged Thailand Srisombat Salinee in the women’s under-70kg final of wrestling, bagging gold.

Her teammate Nguyễn Thị Xuân added another gold for Việt Nam with a win over China’s Fang Kaixuan in the women’s under-50kg category.

Um Jieun of South Korea beat Sun Yazhen from China in the final to win gold of the women’s under-60kg class.

In Sambo, wrestler Meretgeldiyev Begli from Turkmenistan beat Vietnamese Huỳnh Nhất Thống to win gold in the men’s under-62kg final.

In the men’s under-90kg, Yuldashev Ilkhomjon of Uzbekistan defeated Zekenov Alibek from Kazakhstan to take gold home.

Mongolian Baatarsaikhan Solongo stunned Vietnamese Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Hân to win gold in the women’s under-56kg.

Cambodia swept gold in beach petanque (Iron boules) yesterday.

The Cambodian women beat Thailand 13-9 in the final, while the men’s team also beat Thailand with the same score.

In men’s beach football, Japan earned a final berth after beating Lebanon 6-5 in the semi-final.

They will meet Oman in the final on Sunday, who won 8-2 over Afghanistan in the other semi-final.

Việt Nam still lead the medal tally after six days, winning 35 gold, 30 silver and 36 bronze medals.

Thailand were in second place, bagging 27 golds, 20 silvers and 27 bronzes, while China in third with 11 gold, 16 silver and 16 bronze medals.
